Why you should refresh your press-on nails every two weeks
One of the best things about press-on nails is when they outlast a traditional manicure. After perfecting your prep, finding the right adhesive, and finally achieving long-lasting wear, it's tempting to leave them on for as long as possible.
However, if you wear press-ons with liquid nail glue or adhesive tabs (not a UV-cured), removing and refreshing them every two weeks is considered best practice.
Why two weeks?
Even the strongest nail adhesive isn't designed to form a permanent bond. Over time, everyday wear naturally weakens the adhesive. As the bond loosens, tiny gaps can form between your natural nail and the press-on, allowing moisture, soap residue, lint, dirt and debris to become trapped underneath.
While the press-on itself isn’t the issue, a warm and damp environment can encourage bacterial growth, increasing the risk of nail discoloration, often called greenies (not cute), and potentially infection if left unchecked (not good!).
A fresh set is more than just hygiene
Refreshing your adhesive every couple of weeks helps you monitor the health of your natural nails, remove any build-up that gets trapped, and replace the deteriorating glue with a stronger, more secure bond. It also keeps your manicure looking fresh and usually takes only minutes.
Long-lasting wear shouldn't come at the expense of healthy nails. A simple refresh every two weeks helps protect your natural nails, extends the life of your press-ons, and keeps them looking their best.
Important: If you notice lifting, trapped moisture, pain, discoloration, or an unusual odour before the two-week mark, remove your press-ons immediately rather than waiting.
