Press-on nail application for every wear time
If you're wearing your nails for one evening, a weekend, or several days, you can adjust your prep and choice of adhesive accordingly.
While wear time will vary depending on your nail prep, nail length and shape, naturally oily nail beds, adhesive, and everyday activities, use the tips in this article as a sort of guideline to experiment with, not guarantees.
Please note, the methods listed are for the use of air-dry adhesives only, so no UV lamp is required.
One day: Adhesive tabs + dry nails
Best for: events, dinner dates, photoshoots, or just a temporary manicure.
The best and easiest option when you want your nails for a short period and easy removal afterward. Make sure the glue tab covers as much of your natural nail as possible for the best adhesion. Apply your nails after you’ve finished tasks and activities involving water, ideally a few hours before and at least one hour after application.
24 to 48 (maybe 72) hours: Adhesive tabs + proper nail prep
Best for: weekends or short trips.
Glue tabs can usually work well for a couple of days when applied properly and carefully. The key is getting the fit right and keeping your prep clean without overdoing it. For temporary wear, you don't necessarily need the aggressive prep used for long-term glue application. If you need your press ons to last a little while longer, don’t skip lightly buffing your natural nails. Some hardcore press-on nail wearers have shared that applying a small dot of liquid glue on the adhesive tab before applying the press-on can also extend wear time.
7 or more days: Liquid glue + full nail prep
Best for: holidays or when you need a more secure, long-lasting wear.
Liquid nail glue generally provides a stronger bond than adhesive tabs, making it the better choice when you want to wear your set for longer. For this type of application, more thorough nail preparation can help improve the bond. Make sure your nails are clean, dry and free from oils before applying. Keep in mind that stronger adhesion also means more involved removal, so don't choose this method simply because you want your nails to last longer.
To really maximize the wear, you can lightly buff the inside of the press-on nail before applying them. Just remember to thoroughly clean and dehydrate them with an alcohol wipe to remove any debris and particles.
