How to Make Your Press-On Nails Last Longer
Your Talaskye luxury press-on nails are crafted from 100% gel, making them far more durable and flexible than store-bought plastic alternatives. They won’t bend or break easily with proper care—but they’re not indestructible. Since they can last 2 to 3 weeks per wear, they’ll naturally experience some wear and tear depending on how you treat them.
While it’s impossible to keep them completely damage-free, the good news is that with the right care, you can extend their lifespan and keep them looking flawless. Below are some common mistakes that can shorten their life—and what to do instead.
1. Wear gloves when your hands are in water
If your hands are often exposed to water—like when washing dishes or cleaning—wearing gloves is essential. Prolonged exposure to warm water and soap can weaken the glue bond between your natural nails and press-ons, causing premature lifting.
2. Avoid soaking them in the bath
Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting gloves in the bath (not exactly relaxing!). But if you enjoy long soaks, try to keep your hands out of the water when possible. Keep a towel nearby to dry them off as needed while you unwind with a book or podcast.
3. Use your fingertips when washing your hair
When shampooing, use the pads of your fingers to massage your scalp instead of your nails. This helps prevent snagging or lifting, especially at the cuticle edge. Fingertips are gentler and far less likely to disturb your set.
4. Be careful when dressing
Zippers, buttons, and tight fabrics can apply pressure to your nails—especially shorter or medium sets. Use your fingertips rather than your nails to fasten clothing or pull up sleeves and waistbands. A little extra care goes a long way.
5. Avoid tapping and scrolling with your nails
It might feel natural, but using your nails to tap or scroll can chip the gel at the tip and gradually weaken the structure. Instead, tap with your fingertips to preserve the shape and polish of your press-ons.
6. Don’t use your nails as tools
It’s tempting—but damaging. Avoid using your nails to:
Pop open cans
Peel off stickers
Rip open packaging
Scrape off dried product
Treat them like jewellery, not tools.
7. Be mindful while cooking
Grating, peeling, or chopping food can cause chips or micro-scratches if your nails hit hard surfaces. And sticky or oily foods may break down the glue. If you’re handling things like dough or raw meat, wash your hands carefully and dry them thoroughly afterward.
8. Use cotton pads when removing makeup
Makeup removers—especially oil-based ones—can weaken the glue bond. Instead of rubbing your eyes or face with your fingers, use a cotton pad or makeup wipe to avoid unwanted lifting or popping.
9. Avoid applying pressure with your nails
Even light tasks—like pressing buttons on a remote, folding laundry, or changing bed sheets—can put pressure on your nails. You don’t need to avoid them altogether, just be more aware of how you’re using your hands throughout the day.
10. Skip acetone and store-bought nail removers
If you plan to reuse your Talaskye nails, never use acetone or harsh chemical removers. These will break down the gel, ruin the finish, and shorten their lifespan. Always follow a proper removal method and be patient to protect your natural nails and preserve your set.
11. Wait at least 10 days before removing glue-applied nails
If you’ve used liquid glue to apply your set, do not attempt removal before 10 days. Talaskye nails are designed to stay on for 2–3 weeks, and forcing removal too early can damage your natural nails or warp the press-ons. Let them naturally start lifting or loosen before soaking them off gently.
Your Talaskye press-ons are made to feel like a luxury experience—reusable, long-lasting, and elegant. With a few mindful habits, your nails will stay just as stunning on day 14 as they were on day one.
